About

Q. What would I do if I won the lottery?

A. I would set up a philanthropic organisation for working parents and their families; headquartered in Perth.

The truth is that families the world over struggle. Doing good by the kids is a struggle. Making money for the family is a struggle. Taking care of ageing adults is a struggle. As parents, we constantly struggle and juggle.

My dream non-profit organisation would not take away the difficulties of being caught between your kids and ageing adults. It will however help parents spend more time closer to their kids, may help to keep the family together, and reduce travel time. I envision a range of facilities that will house low-rent office space, day care services, primary schools, after hours care, medical support, and other amenities such as sundry provisions and eateries.

The non-profit will also lobby for part-time and job-share employment arrangements/benefits, will promote business-to-business networking for those supportive of working parents, and will organise upskilling training for parents at various stages of their career.

I know, that’s pie-in-the-sky thinking. You’re probably saying Colin’s gotten soft in the head. And you’re right. My chances of winning the lottery are slim, especially since I don’t ever buy lottery tickets. However, even without the throwaway $70 million, my plan to support parents ‘caught in the middle’ continues to drive me.

This is why I conceived SuperParents – an online portal for families in Perth where I will use all of my experience, training, knowledge and resources, and bring them to deal with issues to help parents deal with the challenges of every day living.

For years, I have worked to do this for various organisations without building any social capital. The time has come to change that, and I am making it my mission to highlight and promote any technology, any product, any bit of knowledge to help make parenting easier. Additionally, some of the articles that you’ll find on SuperParents will cover:

  • Child Safety Topics
  • Online Safety
  • Parents and Work/Life Balance
  • Nurturing Discipline
  • Light-Hearted Family Humour

SuperParents will support families trying to achieve the best security, home safety, nurturing guidance, health and quality of life. Based in Perth, Western Australia, the SuperParents portal will reach out to other online channels and will seek alliances to achieve these goals where possible.
